Kevin Dunn knows this year’s lamington drive and motor show will be a triumph, and was prepared to put his backside on one to prove it.WHEN Inverell National Transport Museum members hit the streets about this time each year to fundraise by selling those near traditional fresh lamingtons, then museum stalwart Kevin Dunn knows he really can have his cake and eat it too.

When the Inverell Museum Motor Show accompanying the lamington drive gets underway on Sunday, March 6, he knows mouth-watering motor vehicles from far and wide will roll into town.

Kevin said the lamington drive is the biggest one he has ever seen and said he had no idea how many would be sold this year, but about 4500 walked out the door last year and perfectly complemented the 2015 motor show.

He said this year’s event is also shaping up to be a good one.

“There’ll be all types of transport vehicles, including motorcycles, and the Army have been invited to bring up a Bushmaster again, although they haven’t confirmed that yet,” Kevin said.

“One of the collector clubs in Sydney is coming up with up to 20 luxury sports cars. These are actually the ‘Lotto winner type’ cars, so they will be quite interesting in themselves.

“They range from Ferraris, Alphas, Lamborghinis and Mustangs, the usual stuff that’s in the expensive bracket.”

Kevin said Inverell had one of the biggest museums in Australia and, thanks to the hard work of volunteers, it was something the town could be very proud of, with exhibits at the museum extended since it moved into the new Rifle Range Road building.

“Generally speaking, the motor cycle section has about 30 per cent more cycles in it, and we will be putting possibly another 10 to 20 on display,” Kevin said.

“You know, visitors are very surprised that a town this size has got a museum like this, and they say they think this looks like a town that is pretty well off.

“Well, I have to agree with that because, in my travels, I’ve found Inverell to be one of those towns that is well off, and people aren’t frightened to spread their wealth. Several of our members have put quite a bit of their own income into the museum.

Kevin said more than a half a million visitors had been through the old building, but the figures for the new building had not yet been done.

“It’s only early days yet,” he said.
