WITH victory over 2016 Central West District Golf Association division one pennants powerhouse Mudgee at Dubbo on Sunday Duntryleague Golf Club has firmed as favourites for this year’s title – their fourth straight, should they triumph.

Despite being understrength this year – and not afraid to make their opposition aware of it – Duntryleague No.1 James Conran, No.2 Robert Payne and No.5 Dave Corby all claimed individual victories over their Mudgee counterparts to give their side a 3-2 win.

After an easy 4-1 victory over Wentworth in round one, followed by a bye, Sunday’s victory pushes Duntryleague just shy of the lead in pool A despite boasting a game in hand on first placed Mudgee.

Prior to Sunday’s clash Payne had called on Conran to lift after the youngster lost out to Wentworth skipper Steve Bray in round oneand lift he did.

With the scores locked at 2-all – Duntryleague’s Tyson Lane and Corey McKenzie performed strongly but ultimately lost their match-ups – Conran claimed an individual victory over Mudgee gun Mark Hale on the final green to seal the win for the three-time defending champions.

In division one’s other results on Sunday Forbes defeated Bathurst 3-2.

In division two, Wellington smashed Duntryleague (5-nil) in pool A while Cowra beat Forbes (3-2), Bathurst defeated Wentworth (4-1) and Parkes thrashed Blayney (5-nil) in pool B.

Division three action saw Wellington destroy Duntryleague (5-nil) and Mudgee defeat Ex-Services (4-1) in pool A, while Parkes beat Wentworth (3-2) and Bathurst trumped Forbes (3-2) in pool B.

In division four Mudgee beat Ex-Services (3-2) and Wellington beat Duntryleague (3-2) in pool A, while Wentworth beat Bathurst (3-2) and Cowra annihilated Forbes (5-nil) in pool B.
