The Demons entered the match as underdogs, winless in three roster matches against the Hurricanes, but earned a grand final berth courtesy of an outstanding team effort with the ball and a fine all-round performance from Zoe Lowry.

The Hurricanes won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first.

But the Demons had other ideas, running through the Hurricanes top order to reduce the home side to 5-37 inside the first 10 overs.

The Lowry sisters, Zoe (2-9) and Sascha (2-16) led the way for the Latrobe, with Sascha picking up the big wicket of Mel Scolyer, bowled for one, while Mel Cox (1-20) claimed the important scalp of opener Jane Riley for 6.

Two more quick wickets to Bronte Irvine (2-18) saw the Hurricanes slump to 7-59, in desperate need of a partnership.

Jenna Farrow (11 not out) did her best to lift the home side, combining with Taylor Cooper (three) in a crucial 18-run eighth-wicket partnership.

Esther Magor (1-16) eventually claimed the wicket of Cooper, with the Hurricanes finishing their 20 overs at 8-83.

Latrobe started well in reply, with Zoe Lowry and Sommer Bissett (6) sharing in a 21-run opening partnership.

A mix-up saw Bissett run out by Mel Scolyer, but Lowry found another ally in Anna Crawford (12), and the pair added a further 22 runs for the second wicket.

The Hurricanes turned to April Brown (3-17) to break the partnership, and she delivered, claiming two quick wickets to leave the Demons 3-43.

But Lowry would not be moved, with the talented right-hander sharing in a 22-run partnership with Esther Magor (two), and a 13-run partnership with Georgia Foote (nine) to edge the Demons to within sight of victory.

It was fitting that Lowry was there at the end, with the opener batting through to make 29 not out. Her resolute display saw the Demons reach 5-86, and victory with one over remaining.

The Demons will now meet Wynyard at the Wynyard Showgrounds from 3.30pm on Sunday.
