Mrs Hansen has a deer farm in the Orange region but her passion for good food extends far wider than the healthy venison they produce.

“I was so excited to be in Glen Innes at the show and I loved grabbing all the seasonal produce that I could and putting them together into some nice simple menus,” she said.

“My food is very seasonal simple tasty family food; it’s all about getting the base products that are in season and making the food without too many tricks.

“I enjoy cooking game meats and this weekend was about an easy dinner party menu that anyone could get together in one hour.”

Mrs Hansen said people do get too worried about serving up fancy food when that is not necessary.

“I encourage people to use local food as much as they can,” she said.

“People get so worked up that what they serve has to be restaurant quality but I say to people that they should keep it simple and have fun with it.”

Glen Innes show society publicity officer Kate Dance said Mrs Hansen has worked for some of the best lifestyle magazines in Australia and spent time in Italy in the editorial house of Slow Food.

“The Gourmet Fiesta was so pleased to have Sophie in the Marquee, she was a delightful guest and the recipes she prepared were both inspirational and seasonal which was perfect for our show.”
