Macleay batted for the full 50 overs with batsmen Dean Herbert and Braithen Lewis not out on 6 and 8 respectively to finish 7/150.

The team was then lead in the field by captain Jarrod Prosper to dismiss Manning for 77. Manning lost their star opening batsman to the pace of opening bowler Brock Larance in the first over.

The wickets were shared between Mitchell Korn, 4/19), Brock Larance, 2/15, Kaine Parkinson, 2/8, and Dale Hardy,1/9.

THE Macleay Valley Junior Cricket Association’s Under 12s (Blues) side rounded off their season well after defeating the Hastings in Port Macquarie on Sunday.

After coming through in a nail biter in the semi-finals, the Under 12s were raring to go in their grand final match. With the opening bowling pair of Flynn O’loughlin and Cooper Petterson, the Hastings side were soon reduced to 3-11 after 5 with Petterson bowling a double wicket maiden to tear the heart out of the top order.

From here, the Hastings side went about building a strong partnership. Despite some great bowling from Cooper Schubert, Ronan O’loughlin, Max Brandolini and skipper Lachlan Munday the next breakthrough was nowhere to be seen and Hastings were on top.

After a short break and some calming words, the Macleay side proceeded to go on a wicket rampage.

A good catch to Jye Hayden off Brett Hutley and a double wicket over to Ronan O’loughlin opened the floodgates. The sustained fielding pressure created from the likes of semi final hero Beau Mainey helped create two run outs for the Macleay side. Pocket rocket Pat Preston came on and cleaned up the tail. Macleay had taken 7-12 in 12 overs and were now chasing 80 for victory. A vital partnership of 33 with Flynn O’loughlin, 15, and some great composure by Macleay’s most improved player James Preston (5* not out) helped bat the side to victory with Dowling bringing up the winning runs with a cracking shot to the mid wicket boundary.
