Entries are still rolling in for the two day event with the field capped at a field of 500 individuals and 60 teams for the adults, to maintain a safe racing environment.

Trial Bay Triathlon co-coordinator Peter Needs said if there are people who are still deciding wether to enter the triathlon, it’s all very achievable.

“The distances are reasonable and if you are a runner, swimmer or bike rider my advice is to take it easy and compete within your limits,” Needs said.

“And if you’re a top athlete it is still a very rewarding competition.

“I ran the triathlon a number of years ago and it was a good enjoyable day to compete on a great course and good track.”

The Nestle junior race series is also celebrating their 25th anniversary race and has no capped field as they comprise five separate races, with entries available online with late entries available on the day up to an hour before race start.

The Nestle Mini Tri Series is for children aged 5 to 15 years for the Saturday afternoon event.

“We currently have got in excess of 300 odd individuals and 40 teams registered,” Needs said.

“Registrations for the Nestle Mini Tri Series is a bit slow at the moment but we currently have 100 kids registered however a lot more kids are expected to register as the day draws closer.

“We are not expecting a record field but we are expecting a good turnout.”

The Trial Bay Triathlon last year saw a combined field of over 950 competitors of individuals; teams and children take part in the two day event.

“Regional competition this year is very strong particularly from Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Taree, Forster, Gunnedah and the Hunter Region with many local Macleay residents competing,” Needs said.

“The 2015 race was won by Richard Pearson in at time of 01.10.15., with the first lady home being Michelle Gailey in a time of 01.20.22.

“Originally the course was designed for women and it is expected that we will have more females competing this weekend than males.”
