McMahon celebrates 800th

MILESTONE: Lawrie McMahon began playing bowls in the 1971-72 season for BHAS Bowling Club and has now amassed an incredible number of pennant games.

Congratulations to Lawrie McMahonwho, on Saturday, played his 800th Saturday pennant game for the BHAS Bowling Club.McMahon joined the club in 1969 and has played for 32 years.

With only two games left to play in the minor round things are hotting up as selectors try to tweak their teams to get the best possible results in readiness for the finals.

In division one, BHAS played Jamestown and lost by 12 shots which has now put them out of contention for finals.

Gill, Woolford, Northcott and Spillman fought back near the end of the game to overtake T Bray and run home with a three-shot win.

Vella, Underwood, Bennett and Randall were just a few shots behind K Robinson and managed to level the score on the 20th end, only to be pipped at the post and lose by one shot, 19-20.

Davies, Arnold, Brewer and Hickey just fell by the way-side and lost to L Bowman 22- 27.

Magor, Jackson, Magor and Scarman lost to K Crawford 17-26.

In second division BHAS Blue played Jamestown at home, scoring an 81-shot win after being beaten by them in the first round. BHAS Blue still holds top spot on the ladder followed by BHAS Red.

Donald, Clifford, Williams and Edwards defeated L Haynes 42-16 whileSearle, Rohrsheim, Brine and Gray outplayed the rink of McMahon, winning 21-15.

Todd, Searle, Manfield and Flower managed to keep ahead of I Tiver and ended up winning26-23.

Thompson, Smith, Branford and Cottee were down 8-21 at the tea break, but clawed their way back into the game only to end up with a draw at17-all.

BHAS Division Two Red played Laura at Laura and were the victors by nineshots overall.

Key, Todd, Fitzgerald and McGrory were expecting to play after dark, as the Laura boys had five dead ends, but they prevailed,winning 29-24.

Amato, Dansie, Watson and Watkins had no trouble or dramas against G Blake, winning 31-21.

Dingle, Holthouse, Partridge and Ganley narrowly defeated A Stewart 21-19.

May, Turci, Hellmanns and Amato let Laura get off to a good start and never looked like catching up, losing to K Eckert 17-25.

Still in second spot on the ladder, they only need to win one more game to qualify for the second semi-final.

Also at home ere BHAS Division Three who played Orroroo, only to lose by 26 shots.

In the final game, BHAS Division Four played Caltowie and kept up their track record with a win by four shots.
