New furniture for Warialda hall

Gwydir Shire Council general manager Max Eastcott, building services manager Colin Cuell, mayor John Coulton and Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall.WARIALDA’S iconic War Memorial Hall will soon have a whole new batch of chairs and tables, thanks to a $10,230 grant from the NSW government’s Community Building Partnership fund.

Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall made the announcement on Monday, and paid a recent visit to Warialda to deliver the news.

Gwydir Shire Council mayor John Coulton said council was grateful to receive the funding, and pleased all the old furniture would soon be removed from the hall.

“The legs of the chairs and tables are taking their toll. It wasn’t that long ago the timber floor was restored to its former glory so the last thing we want to see is these chairs continually scraping over it and tearing it up,” Cr Coulton said.

Mr Marshall said the hall was a vital community asset, regularly used by council and community groups for various functions, wedding, balls and ceremonies.

He agreed the hall tables and chairs were in poor condition.

“Over the years, they have been damaged and many removed from the premises which has left insufficient numbers to happily seat visitors when functions reach full capacity,” Mr Marshall explained.

“The chairs and tables that remain are beginning to damage the beautiful timber floor, so I was more than happy to support this application for funding.”

“It’s a beautiful old hall and it’s great to see it’s still well used and I’m delighted that together we have been able secure this funding to address these issues.”
