Outback grants close soon

Applications for a grant process to aid communities in the Upper Spencer Gulf and Outback regions close February 26.

The future program offers $2 million in small grants of $50,000 to $200,000.

Regional Development Minister Geoff Brock said the program specifically supports projects to create jobs and drive economic growth in the region.

“This program recognises the challenges being faced by the Upper Spencer Gulf and Outback area due to the downturn in the resources sector and the impending closure of the Port Augusta power stations and the Leigh Creek coal mine by Alinta Energy,” he said.

“I encourage individuals, local companies and businesses, large and small, as well as local councils, Regional Development Australia and the Outback Communities Authority to consider what kind of projects would really benefit the area.
