Speed, efficiency Condor’s key

A series of impromptu demonstrations of Agrifac’s Condor Endurance created strong interest on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula earlier this month.

The 8000 litre capacity self propelled sprayer is noted for its unique suspension design, large capacity tank and booms to 54 metres.

YP AG’s representative, Brad Twartz, said the on farm demos were a great way for farmers to explore the machine’s capabilities.

“Once we started the demo’s word got around and we’d go from one farm to another and we soon had the week planned out that took us up around Cleve and then toward Rudall.

“It certainly gains interest because we are in the area, but our goal is to get the name out there more. People have seen them at the field days but a demo shows them what they are capable of in field.

“Most of the time we were taken to some pretty rough paddocks as a bit of a test and the feedback has been very good,” he said.

“Most say that their own machine’s boom couldn’t ride as well at 15 km/h or at all, at the speed we were doing with the Condor – and we were doing 30 km/h on a demonstration you have to be able to show what the machine can handle.

With this capacity in a self propelled sprayer you are going to cover some acres, Mr Twartz said. “You’d even be able to drop speed and you will still get the efficiency with the 48 metre boom.

As a relatively new brand on the market, Mr Twartz said customer support was key to the brand’s success. YPAG was in a good location to be able to support sales on both the Yorke and Eyre Peninsulas.

Farmer’s interest is initially piqued by the big boom and big tank, he said. “But there’s also a lot of standard features on this machine, there’s not a lot of options because there is no need for them in the way it is presented. The controller system is so simple to use, everything is at your fingertips and basically you can see everything that is going on within the machine.

“Farmers are always impressed by the ride and the chassis set-up. The chassis design takes a lot of work out of the boom and it gives almost 50:50 weight distribution – the package is all about efficiency and capacity.”

Farmers were also surprised at how the machine can run at lower RPM making it more fuel efficient and quieter than most on the market.

The HighTech AirPlus nozzle system also surprised a few farmers Mr Twartz said. “It was probably around how simple it was to use – you basically set what droplet size you want and it simply maintains that.”

The HighTech AirPlus system does away with nozzle changes by using air injection mixing in the nozzle which adjusts the droplet size and lessens spray drift.

“The full recirculation system also meant there’s never any chemical sitting in the boom lines to cause sedimentation, and the system always maintains full spray pressure,” he said.

“The plumbing is also very neat to eliminate having a lot of left-over liquid making cleaning a lot easier.

“It was well received wherever we went, with the boom ride and the capacity the main things for most farmers.”
