Wiltipolls hit $1650 at Gulgong breed sale

The equal top price Reavesdale ram which was purchased by Larry Nott, “Forest Lodge”, Turill, for $1650.VENDORS left the NSW Wiltipoll sale at Gulgong with smiles on their faces, having cleared all their ramsto average $1030.

Ian Hopwood and Loris Denyer, Reavesdale Wiltipolls, Murringo, sold the equal top price ram for $1650 to Larry Nott, “Forest Lodge”, Turill.

Mr Nott’s daughter, Sandra, chose the ram.

“She’s gota keen eye for stock and selected it for itsstyle, length, fullness andconformation. She could see it had good potentialfor our new stud,” Mr Nott said.

The family recently turned to Wiltipolls to replace their fine wool Merino flock.

“We chose to go withthem for their easy care nature,” he said.

Reavesdale studalso sold the equal top priced ram to Paul Kelly, Kelly Pastoral Company, Forbes.

Last year’s top priced ram sold for $1300.

All 21 ewes on sale cleared.

Stud ewes byReavesdale,purchased by Karl and June Ritar, Gulgong, reached a top of $760.

Commercial ewes bred by Wayne Pym and Ann Wunsch sold to a top of $560 and averaged $461.

Mr Pym donated the proceeds of aewe to the mental health charity Black Dog Institute. It was purchased for $375 by the Ritar family.

The threevolume buyers on the day were Chris Plum, Lady Smith via Wagga Wagga;Terry Davies,Finley andPaul Kelly,Forbes.

The vendors at the sale were: The Hopwood family’sReavesdale stud, Gulong;Peter andJudy Colless’ Carthona stud, Wingham;Dennis Johnson’sFour Winds stud, Bundanoon;Coralie Moss’sIronbark stud, Tamworth; Richard Davies’Lone Pine, Goulburn;Ian Whittle’sSpring Valley stud, Cowra and Ann Wunsch’sIthaca stud,Frog Rock via Mudgee.

Mr Hopwood, also a spokesman for theAustralian Wiltipoll Association,was pleased with the sale.

“The numbers at this year’s salewere down on the year before but we had a total clearance which was excellent and the vendors were very happy with the prices fetched,” Mr Hopwood said.

The sale was conducted by McDonald Lawson, Mudgee.
