Wisos deliver huge round one statement

Wiseman Park issued an early statement of intent by thrashing Dapto Citizens, while Towradgi made an excellentstart beating the second Warilla side on the opening day of Illawarra Grade 1 pennants.

The new12 team Grade 1 competition features two pools of six teams who playtheir sectional rivals home and away over 10 rounds.

The top two teams advance to the playoffs with Warilla having a team in each pool after winning the state No 2 pennant crown in 2015.

Wiseman Park made a rousing start with a 90-36 thrashing of Citos in round one.

Wisos won all three rinks to collect the maximum 10 points, with the new scoring system givingseven points for an overall win and one point for each of the three rinks.

Dapto Citz brought in a host of new players this season but could not have made a worse start, while for Wiseman Park it was the perfect start for Shane Garvey and his team.

In other section 1 matches, Warilla (1) won all three rinks in a 66-48 win over Woonona, while Figgy Bowlo won two rinks against Windang and and overall 65-51.

In Section 2, Towradgi made a great start with a 55-53 (9-1) win over Warlla 2; Albion Park beat Kiama 58-44 (8.5 to 1.5) and Corrimal beat Thirroul 68-54 (9-1).

In Saturday’s round two in section 1, Citos host Windang; Figgy Bowlo host Warilla 1 and Woonona host Wiseman Park.

In section 2,Corrimal host Towradgi, Albion Park host Thirroul and Warilla (2) welcomeKiama.
